Oct. 9-11, 2009 National Bowl, Augusta, GA
It was a learning experience to host our first tournament in Augusta. Eight novice bowlers competed in this event along with 23 AWBA regulars. Harold Bowman and Norm Bissell won the doubles event on Friday. Unfortunately, we had to cancel the Up and Down event due to a conflict with the bowling center.
. I especially want to thank Leia Turner and ABC Medical for the tremendous support they provided us as well. She presented a check to the AWBA of $500, provided two additional prizes to Jim Coffey and Judy Overholt for top of the line bowling balls, and two additional cash prizes of $100 won by Horace Boyd and Homer Cole. She also provided goody bags for all the bowlers who participated.
After qualifying the top qualifiers were Bob Goddard (1997) Scratch, Wayne Webber (2453) “A” and Terry Rock (2528) “B”. Larry Dodson was crowned Champion in the Ramp division. Homer Cole won the Novice division. Individual honors were awarded to Bob Goddard HSS (731), Keith Scott HSG (208) in the scratch division. Wayne Webber and Norm Bissell tied for HHS (851) and Don Porpora won HHG (256) in “A”. Robert Kimrey took HHS (905) and Terry Rock HHG (251) in “B”.
We pulled it off with some tremendous help from the PVA National, the bowling center and the AWBA bowlers supporting us. Thanks also to the auxiliary members doing the 50/50 raffles and Nancy Roberts who handled the scoring. I appreciate the efforts put forth by everyone in the chapter, especially Henry Walters and his wife Lori who were instrumental in getting some great door prizes and serving us a great dinner as well!
